Happy New Year! I know many of you made resolutions to start the new year. I hope remembering McKendree was included in your resolutions. Our thanks to those of you who made an end of year contribution to support the mission of McKendree.
On December 7th members of the William McKendree Society gathered for their annual Christmas Reception. Normally held at Stevenson House, the home of the President, this year the event was hosted by Board Trustee John Bailey, '76 at his home in Mascoutah. Our thanks to John for allowing the William McKendree Society to tour his home.
If you would like to make a charitable donation to McKendree, we invite you to do so by making a secure online gift.
IRA Rollover Extended for Another Year!
Our thanks to the friends and alumni of McKendree who have made gifts to McKendree from their IRA account. On October 3, as part of the "bailout package" signed by President Bush, the IRA Rollover provision which has been offered for the past two years has, once again, been extended. This act permits an IRA owner, age 70 1/2 or older to make a direct transfer of their IRA account to McKendree University. The transfer may be up to $100,000 in one year and this IRA rollover will exist for year the 2008 and 2009. You should consult your tax advisor about this provision. If you would like to discuss these rollover provisions with us, please e-mail Scott Billhartz or call him at 618-537-6869. Our thanks to those who have already contacted Scott.
Remember McKendree
We thank the hundreds who have already responded to our fall appeal - Remember McKendree. We hope you were taken back to how McKendree looked when you were a student. Whether your memories are of Lake Beautiful, playing intramurals on Hypes Field, or gathering in Bearcat Gym for Bearcat basketball games, each of us have fond memories of our time at McKendree. For me, many things have changed since I graduated in 1975.
With this appeal we are asking you to Remember McKendree in a new way; by making a gift to the McKendree Annual Fund. Giving to the Annual Fund allows current and future students the same great memories you have of McKendree. Gifts help make it possible for expanded scholarships, technology enhancements, facility maintenance - just to name a few ways your gifts help. Secure online gifts can be made by clicking here. If you have any questions about Remember McKendree, please give Allison Turner, Director of the Annual Fund, a call at 618-537-6500 or e-mail her.

The tradition of giving to McKendree:
McKendree students, parents, grandparents, friends and alumni continue a rich tradition of assisting our alma mater. This tradition, known as the McKendree Legacy, means current and future students are supported by the financial gifts and prayers of our friends and alumni. It is a legacy which began with the founding of our college.
On February 20, 1828, an organizational meeting was held to take definite action to establish a seminary. In the following days organizers sought subscriptions and 105 subscribers donated to support the Lebanon Seminary fund. These 105 subscribers are the founders of McKendree. Their gift paved the way for the purchase of the original campus and for the construction of the first buildings.
Today, your gifts to support McKendree University are just as meaningful. Please explore our web pages to see how your gift can be a benefit to our students and programs.
