Rebecca Lindstrom '09

"I love the people at McKendree, including the staff, faculty, and students. I have connected with more people, all levels of the administrative staff included, than students will meet at other institutions. I don't know when it happened for sure, but there was a point in time when McKendree felt like home, and I felt like I belonged here."

Name: Rebecca Lindstrom

Graduation Year: 2009

Major: Accounting & Political Science

Why did you come to McKendree?
I initially came to McKendree to be a part of the women's bowling team. I also met with Dr. Folk during my initial visit and was very impressed with his honesty and interest in doing everything in his power to be sure I had the opportunity to reach the goals I set for myself. McKendree just felt right to me, and I would not change my decision today.

Favorite part of McKendree or favorite memory?
I love the people at McKendree, including the staff, faculty, and students. I have connected with more people, all levels of the administrative staff included, than students will meet at other institutions. I don't know when it happened for sure, but there was a point in time when McKendree felt like home, and I felt like I belonged here. That feeling is something that will stay with my forever. Last year my parents came for Honors Day, which is the only time they come down as home is several hours away. This day was finally my opportunity for them to meet the faculty and staff I bonded with over the past few years, and each one of them was extremely complementary and told my parents they didn't want me to leave. Dr. Dennis even remembered my dad, and it has been over three years since he'd seen him last.

Why do you encourage other students to come here?
McKendree has more to offer than the larger institutions. Opportunities abound if only you take the time to look and apply for them. Given that it is a small school, you truly know your professors outside of the classroom, and they are willing to do whatever they can to help you succeed. I know that I am well-cared for and that if I ever needed anything there are people who would drop anything to do it for me. Lebanon is a small community, but the world is within your grasp just a few miles away in St. Louis.

What extracurricular activities are you involved in?
Too many to list! Over the past 4 years I have been a part of the bowling team, debate team, Model U.N. as both a staff member and a participant, Phi Beta Lambda at the local and state levels, Phi Kappa Phi at the local and national levels, Pi Gamma Mu, Sigma Beta Delta, Pi Kappa Delta, New Student Orientation, University 101, Student Ambassadors, the business ethics competition team, Philosophy club, yearbook, Public Affairs Forum, St. Louis Regional Business Council Peer Mentor Network, and Senior Class Gift Committee
